Is it a Dental Emergency?

  • November 22, 2022
  • Dental Emergency

According to the American Dental Association, dental emergencies “are potentially life-threatening and require immediate treatment to stop ongoing tissue bleeding, alleviate severe pain or infection.” The ADA includes the following conditions within the definition:

  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Cellulitis or a diffuse soft tissue bacterial infection with intraoral or extraoral swelling that potentially compromises the patient’s airway
  • Trauma involving facial bones that potentially compromises the patient’s airway

If a patient is experiencing the above EMERGENCY conditions, immediate care should be sought via 911 or by visiting a hospital emergency room department.

For URGENT conditions that require dental care to relieve severe pain and/or alleviate the risk of infection through minimally invasive procedures or treatments, Beulah Family Dentistry is available to assist. Typical urgent issues our experienced dentists treat include:

  • Severe dental pain from pulpal inflammation
  • Pericoronitis or third-molar pain
  • Surgical postoperative osteitis or dry socket dressing changes
  • Abscess or localized bacterial infection resulting in pain and swelling
  • Tooth fracture resulting in pain or causing soft tissue trauma
  • Trauma causing a tooth to fall completely out or become partially dislodged
  • Temporary restorations or fillings that are lost, broken or causing irritation
  • Defective permanent restorations causing pain
  • Denture adjustments or repairs impeding functionality

If a patient is experiencing the above urgent conditions, please call our office at 850.706.5688 and describe the issue you are experiencing. We will work to get you in as quickly as possible. In contrast, non-emergency dental procedures include:

  • Routine oral examinations, dental cleaning and other preventive therapies
  • Fillings, root canals, bridges, implants, crowns and other restorative dentistry services
  • Teeth whitening, bonding, veneers and other aesthetic dental procedures

For additional information, visit the Services page to learn more about our procedures and treatments. Call us today or complete our online appointment request form to conveniently schedule your visit.
